There is no reason to not have the minimum wage raised to $10. With inflation always on the rise, there is no reason to not have to minimum wage raised also. For some reason, raising the minimum wage has always been a slow process. There seems to be no delay in making prices in everything else go up, but the minimum wage is always stagnated.
There are a lot of things that we have today that are unaffordable. For example, a decent apartment or a house to rent might cost around $1000 a month. For those prices, there is no way a person who makes minimum can afford on his or her own. They would have to have roommates to have to share the price of rent with them. That doesn’t include all the bills that come with it. Not only that, if they have a family, it would be even more difficult. With the current minimum wage we have now, one person being able to afford that would be impossible. For someone to be able to afford a rental like that on their own, a college degree and a good job should be guaranteed.
In order to force the corporations to pay their employees a livable wage, the government needs to raise the minimum wage. The companies will not do it on their own, so the government needs to realize that raising the minimum will give a livable wage to everyone.
